All the same Lynda. Plus, personalized course recommendations tailored just for you. All the same access to your Lynda learning history and certifications. Same instructors. New platform. Welcome to Cinema 4D Essentials points, edges, polygons, and splines. There are fundamental building blocks that make up all 3D objects and understanding how they work will help create just about any kind of object you could imagine.

First off, we'll look at the basic elements, points, edges, and polygons, and some of the key tools for creating and manipulating models at the component level. Next, we'll work with splines, which are a lot like the paths in programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. Then we'll put all of those concepts to work, creating a 3D model of an audio speaker. So let's get started with Cinema 4d Essentials polygons and splines. Rob reveals the components behind polygonal-modeling points, edges, and polygons and how to manipulate them with the tools in CINEMA 4D.I often have problem during modeling in Cinema 4d.

Some part of model has polygon that I cannot smooth. I attach a polygon is part of my model. However, I try different methods, it still not as smooth as i want. I need put this part into exact position of my model. You construction is all wrong. You need to maintain 4 sided polygons to make it smooth. I would also use a HyperNurbs object as well. I had several attempt with hyperNurb, but it only make my model even worse, because the HyperNurbs alway give round edges, I try bevel or use phone tag to add weight on the sharp edge learn from your tutorial subdivision surface.

I still cannot use HyperNurb in this model. Could you give me a example how do you apply HyperNurbs in to this piece of polygon? Project -Unsmooth polygon attached. Sometimes to get the proper edge flow 3 sided polygons can be used.

But I sounds like this is to fit into something you haven't shown us. My guess is this other part needs remodelling as well. If you can show us the entire structure we can provide a better answer. You may in fact need to cut the piece out of the other piece using a Boole Object after first using the "Spline Cutter" plugin on a made editable HyperNurbs object. Thanks for the suggestion.

I put shiny material on this model, that part of polygon looks quick smooth. Probably, when the surface too bright, the broken part has been covered. I may fixed this part later on, if it is necessary. Sorry for the confusing, should be " Could anyone provide a solution, how to deal these Not-smooth polygon. Thanks for this solution.

I modify my structure later on, and this part polygon did not looks very bad, when I put chrome material on. So I just move on with my design project. Cinema 4D Release 17 includes several methods for matching vector paths to 3D geometry.

Using Close Polygon Hole and Create Polygon

The Project Spline from prior releases can be used to match a spline to geomety based on an axis of view. With the new Spline Smooth tool you can interactively project a spline onto geometry, or utilize new spline snapping with either the Pen or Sketch tool to draw splines directly on geometry. This plugin works for 3ds Max or later. Select objects "4big" and "4small" and hide them both in editor and renderer. Also included are new lens distortion tools for improved motion tracking and completely reworked spline tools for greater efficiency when manipulating points, lines, tangents, arcs and more. Hope it helps the rest of us beginnners. Tim will be exploring techniques that will enhance your productivity and streamline your workflow. In other modes the spline will always appear to be linear since the trail is then made up from multiple, independent, very short splines which cannot show curves.

Select, attach, detach and delete multiple shapes using smart filters : by size, by length, by proximity, by similarity, by wirecolor, by layer, etc. Try to render your completed animation, if it seems to be taking forever, try to optimize your render. Learning how to leverage C4D in your 2D workflow is critical when it comes to saving time creating elements and animating.

I've found a 3rd party plugin but it only supports So when I use HyperNurbs on it and apply weight to get sharp edges I get these holes. When working with these objects in CINEMA 4D, this is often a waste of resources and can be inconvenient when editing the model or applying texture coordinates. A new Polygon reduction generator preserves UVs and vertex maps.

That is why Jawset TurbulenceFD for Cinema 4D 's simulation pipeline has been designed from the ground up to optimize performance. Now attach an extrude function to the spline and increase the depth to BaseObject — The established base object. You can also connect two objects by placing them under the Connect Object, which welds the objects together in a non-destructive way.

In some of their examples they show an extruded spline as a volume object. Add that. The spline will always be imported with the Close Spline option enabled, i.

First and foremost, this is the first professional program which can perform complete bi-directional conversions to and from the CINEMA-4D. The easiest way to reduce the vertex count on a model is probably to use the Decimate modifier. This command can be used to disconnect selected polygons from a polygon object or segments between selected spline points.

These disconnected surfaces or segments will remain in place but will no longer be physically connected to the original element. This tool normally needs a selection of polygons and polygon mode enabled. A good example of using Disconnect would be to cut a hole into an object and keep the disconnected surface to use as a cap.

This tool can also be applied to splines. In contrast to the Break Segment tool, the start and end points of the disconnected segment are duplicated as is the case with polygon objects and are not deleted from the original spline. Thus the order of the spline remains intact both before and after disconnection. When using Disconnect on splines, a selection of points and point mode are needed. If this option is enabled, the elements are disconnected from the object in one piece provided they were connected to begin with.

If the option is disabled, the elements are separated from one other as well as from the object.
